Keep Repeating: There Is No Health Plan Underwriting Cycle…

It’s just that medical cost trends are showing signs of accelerating after a period of historically low growth, which is impacting industry earnings prospects after a run a solid profitability.  But I repeat, there is no underwriting cycle.

When you load onto medical care costs the burden of mandated, uncompensated care, you are not in a traditional underwriting cycle that is characteristic of the free market. What you have instead is a commandeering of the free market and its destruction by our political elite’s interference in how private industry works for the good of all of us. What is left standing is the central control of our country for the benefit of our political elite and those who keep them in power.

Obamacare is the explicit payoff of government union workers who will now not have to pay a dime for their health care when they retire at age 50 or 55 so they can cruise all the way to their free ride on Medicare when they turn 65. The rest of us will have to sacrifice our passive income – our IRAs, our 401ks, our home sales, our capital gains – to pay for these freeloaders. This is why we have no underwriting cycle, only skyrocketing medical costs that the rest of us are forced to pay for the benefit of a privileged group of freeloading voters and campaign contributors.

I would far, far rather have an underwriting cycle that naturally follows the expansion and contraction of the market to my benefit than tolerate our political elite’s shakedown of the rest of us that guarantees their power but obliterates our wealth and freedom.
